TYPES OF MODULUS OF ELASTICITY
Corresponding to the three types of strain there are three types of modulus of elasticity.
1. Young’s modulus of elasticity (Y)
2. Bulk modulus of elasticity (K)
3. Modulus of rigidity (η).
2.1) Young’s modulus of elasticity
It is defined as the ratio of the normal stress to the longitudinal strain.
i.e. Young’s modulus (Y) = (Longitudinal stress )/(Longitudinal strain)
Normal stress = F/A, Longitudinal strain = DL/L
Y = (F/A)/(ΔL/L)=FL/AΔL
