It is a no-brainer that a student aspiring to crack the JEE, has to burn the midnight oil to master all the concepts prescribed in the syllabus and devote his full attention in this pursuit. However experts say that mere hard work is not enough to be successful in this exam. Hard work must go hand in hand with smart work.
Smart preparation gives you the much needed edge in such competitive exams. JEE is not only about accuracy and speed but also about knowing to attempt the right questions first. This can make a world of difference to the score. You can never skip any one of the above aspects if you are looking to score well. But the catch is that your speed and accuracy in the exam depends a lot on questions you attempt first. Hence, one should be very careful in identifying the easier and well prepared questions. You must not attempt questions serial wise. Have a look at the question paper and attempt those that appear easy to you.
IIT-JEE is not entirely about solving all the problems. The success in this exam lies in the number of questions answered by students within a certain period.
Here are some useful tips for JEE:
- Create separate quick revision notes for each subject. Your quick revision notes should contain important formulae, important concepts and points you feel you are likely to forget. Go through the quick revision notes as often as possible.
- For remembering definitions try studying from flash cards.
- To remember detailed notes try using mnemonics.
- Practice previous year papers/ sample papers to be able to identify trends and then work upon your weaknesses.
- Keep the last 2 months for revision.
- Focus on studying topics that are your weak points and continue practicing sample papers/previous year papers.
- In the last month practice the exam papers during the same timings as the official exam, this will help you get into the habit of remembering and writing answers at that time.
- If group studies suit you try discussing physics concepts, quiz each other on chemistry topics and attempt Math quizzes together.
- In math, trial and error helps you out to get the final answer easily sometimes. One should also try substituting options for few algebra questions. For progressions part, one can also assume some ‘n’ value and try out with options to get final answer.
- Refer to the quick revision notes as often as possible.
In physics, dimensional analysis helps us many a times. For Optics part, represent the given question in the form of figures. Electrical circuits can be solved just by analyzing the given circuit and applying basic current laws. Modern physics, every year fetches around 15 marks which will be easy once you understand basic fission and fusion mechanisms.
Inorganic Chemistry is pretty straight forward and one can attempt most of the questions from this concept by revising the notes often. The reaction mechanisms in Organic Chemistry should be given importance. For physical, be thorough with basics like mole concept, stoichiometry.
