DIFFERENCE OF SYLLABUS BETWEEN MAINS and ADVANCED

JEE-Main and Advanced are interrelated and different at the same time. The score obtained in JEE Mains is very important as it decides the admission process to engineering institutions like IITs, NITs and other government funded institutions. Only candidates who qualify JEE-Main can take JEE-Advanced.

There are only a few differences in syllabi. JEE advanced syllabus covers deep inside the topics where as JEE mains cover up to NCERT level. This makes it difficult to cover all the topics for JEE advanced but not impossible if studied properly during preparation.

There are some important differences between JEE Main syllabus and JEE Advanced syllabus. We can break them down by subject:

diff

PHYSICS:

Topics included in JEE Advanced 2015 (and not in JEE Main 2015):

Thermal Physics: Newton’s law of cooling; Blackbody radiation; absorptive and emissive powers; Kirchoff’s law; Wein’s displacement law; Stefan’s law.
Topics excluded from JEE Advanced 2015 (but part of JEE Main 2015):

Electromagnetic Waves: Electromagnetic waves and their characteristics. Transverse nature of electromagnetic waves. Electromagnetic spectrum radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible, ultraviolet, X-rays, gamma rays). Application of e.m.waves

Electronic Devices: Semiconductors; semiconductor diode: I-V characteristics in forward and reverse bias; diodes as a rectifier; I-V characteristics of LED, photodiode, solar cell and diode; Zener diode as a voltage regulator. Junction transistor, transistor action, characteristics of a transistor; transistor as an amplifier (common emitter configuration) and Oscillator. Logic gates (OR, AND, NOT, NAND and NOR). Transistor as a switch.

Communication Systems: Propagation of electromagnetic waves in the atmosphere; Sky and space wave propagation, Need for modulation Amplitude and Frequency Modulation, Bandwidth of signals, Bandwidth of transmission medium, basic elements of a Communication System (Block Diagram only).

CHEMISTRY
Topics included in JEE Advanced 2015 (and not in JEE Main 2015):

Electrochemistry: Equivalent Conductivity

Nuclear Chemistry: Radioactivity; Properties of alpha, beta and gamma rays; Kinetics of radioactive decay (decay series excluded), carbon dating; Stability of nuclei with respect to proton-neutron ratio; Brief discussion on fission and fusion reactions.

Topics excluded from JEE Advanced 2015 (but part of JEE Main2015):

Biomolecules: Vitamins – Classification and functions; Nucleic acids – Chemical constitution of DNA and RNA

Chemistry in Everyday Life: Chemicals in medicines – Analgesics, tranquilizers, antiseptics, disinfectants, antimicrobials, antifertility drugs, antibiotics, antacids, antihistamins – their meaning and common examples.
Chemicals in food – Preservatives, artificial sweetening agents – common examples.
Cleansing agents – Soaps and detergents, cleansing action

MATHS
Topics excluded from JEE Advanced 2015 (but part of JEE Main2015):

Sets, Relations and Functions: Sets and their representation; Union, intersection and complement of sets and their algebraic properties; power set; relation, Types of relations, equivalence relations

Statistics and Probability: Measures of Dispersion; calculation of mean, median. Mode of grouped and ungrouped data calculation of standard deviation, variance and mean deviation for grouped and ungrouped data.

Trigonometry: Heights and Distances

Mathematical Reasoning: Statements, logical operations and, or, implies, implied by, if and only if. Understanding of tautology, contradiction, converse and contra positive.

For better understanding, go to the IIT site ( www.jeeadv.iitb.ac.in/syllabus) and see the syllabus. Follow the syllabus strictly given in the brochure. No questions will be asked beyond the syllabus.

Hope this helps !!
